Civil Engineering team INNOWAVE from Vidya participated in the PALS InnoWAH! Cluster Finals 2026, organized by PALS (Pan IIT Alumni Leadership Series) on 21 February 2026 at Jawaharlal College of Engineering & Technology, Ottappalam. The team, guided by faculty mentor Ms. Chithira Ajeeth (Asst Prof, CE Dept), comprised five members: Alwin P Reji (S6,CE Dept), Anjana Rajesh (S6,CE Dept), Nince Maria C (S6,CE Dept), Sandra P S (S6,CE Dept) and Vipin Krishna Murali (S6,CE Dept).
They presented an innovative model titled “Smart Sponge City System”, which emphasizes efficient rainwater management through sustainable urban infrastructure and smart monitoring technologies.
The system collects rainwater from rooftops and paved areas, passing it through filtration chambers before storage in underground tanks and recharge structures. Sensors continuously monitor water levels, while solenoid valves regulate overflow and leakage detection sensors identify pipeline faults. This integrated approach reduces urban flooding and enhances water reuse efficiency. Participation in the PALS InnoWAH! Cluster Finals 2026 provided the team with valuable learning experience and a platform to present their innovative model. The project demonstrates how sustainable infrastructure combined with smart technology can effectively address real-world urban flooding challenges and encourages further exploration of climate-resilient civil engineering solutions.
Participation in the PALS InnoWAH! Cluster Finals 2026 offered the team a valuable learning experience and a chance to showcase innovative civil engineering solutions focused on climate resilience.
