CSE faculty member serves as resource person for Software Testing Workshop on Katalon Studio and Selenium

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) conducts various academic and skill-development activities to provide students with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in emerging technologies and industry-standard tools.

As part of its commitment to promoting industry-oriented learning, Vidya Academy of Science & Technology organized a landmark two-day workshop on Software Testing Workshop: Katalon Studio and Selenium at LEAD College (Autonomous) on 25–26 April 2026. The programme was facilitated by Dr. Arjun K P (Asso Prof, CSE Dept) and provided intensive hands-on training to 64 Master of Computer Applications (MCA) students over 16 hours, achieving 100% attendance. The workshop aligned with NBA Program Outcomes PO5 (Modern Tool Usage) and PO10 (Professional Development), effectively bridging the gap between academic learning and industry expectations in software quality assurance and test automation.

Content Coverage and Learning Outcomes

The workshop was structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of software testing concepts and automation practices. Day 1 focused on software testing fundamentals, including Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) integration, testing methodologies and types, Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) phases, test case design techniques, and an introduction to the Selenium ecosystem. Day 2 emphasized advanced automation concepts such as Selenium WebDriver implementation, web element locators, synchronization techniques, assertions, test automation frameworks, and real-world industry case studies.

Through the practical sessions, students developed competencies in web element identification, automated test script creation, synchronization handling, test case design, and automation framework development. The workshop also enhanced participants’ analytical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, and familiarity with industry-standard testing tools.

Training Methodology and Assessment

The resource person adopted a blended-learning approach that combined theoretical instruction with live demonstrations, hands-on laboratory exercises, interactive question-and-answer sessions, and industry-oriented case studies. Student performance and engagement were assessed through direct observation of practical activities, evaluation of developed test scripts, participation in interactive discussions, successful completion of assignments, and structured feedback collection. The assessment outcomes and participant feedback indicated a high level of satisfaction and confirmed the effectiveness of the training programme.

Institutional Impact

The successful conduct of the workshop reflected the institutional commitment of LEAD College (Autonomous) toward industry-oriented education. The institution provided well-equipped laboratory facilities, access to industry-standard tools such as Selenium WebDriver and Katalon Studio, and comprehensive learning resources that enabled an effective learning environment.

The initiative strengthened curriculum relevance, enhanced student employability, contributed valuable evidence toward NBA accreditation requirements, and reinforced the institution’s reputation for delivering quality technical education. Furthermore, the programme established a benchmark for future expert-led training initiatives and demonstrated the value of strategic academia–industry collaborations in preparing students for professional excellence in software testing and quality assurance domains.

The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending hearty congratulations to Dr. Arjun  on the successful conduct of the session that strengthens industry-relevant competencies, enhanced students’ employability prospects and demonstrates the significance of academia–industry-oriented training initiatives in preparing future software professionals !!!
