Self-Defense Training for Girl Students

Women Empowerment Cell of the College jointly with the the Janamythri Police, Erumapetty, orgaanised a Self Defense Training programme for the girl students of the College on 07 March 2017. The training was primarily focused on teaching young women the means to protect themselves from criminals or attackers in times of danger. About 150 girl students participated in the programme.

Ms.Salkala K S, Assistant Professor in Computer Applications and Convener of Women Empowerment Cell, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Sudha Balagopalan, Principal of the College, in her presidential address, said that training in self-defense will be an effective step to empower girls students of the College.

Ms.Sherly Dileep Kumar, President, Velur Panchayat, inaugurated the function.

Mr. Vinil Kumar, Sub-Inspector of Police, Erumapetty explained about the Janamaithri Suraksha Project of Govt. of Kerala. He said that crime against women is a growing concern for the police. While the police is adept at providing protection to women, they also thought that it is important for women to be trained in self-defense, so that they are able to protect themselves.
