Ten-stop Tour of Fundamatics flagged off

It was an ambitious project of the Applied Sciences Dept of the College: An online course in the fundamental concepts of mathematics tailored to strengthen the mathematical foundations of higher secondary school students. The Dept identified ten key topics in mathematics a knowledge of which needs strengthening and christened the online course as a “Ten-stop Tour of Fundamatics”!

The online course was flagged off in a an online ceremony conducted on 20 July 2020 and the programme was attended by Er G Mohanachandran, Executive Director, Mr Suresh Lal, finance Director, Dr Sudha Balagopalan, Dean-Academics, Dr V N Krishnachandran, Vice-Principal, Heads of Depts, Faculty members and students of Vidya, and participants from all over India and abroad. Dr Jiby K Jose (Prof and Head, Applied Sciences Dept) welcomed the participants. Er G Mohanachandran highlighted the importance of empowering the students to face the challenges in higher education whether it was engineering, arts, science or medicine. Dr Sudha Balagopalan pointed out how the Ten-stop Tour of Fundamatics was conceptualized as an online course, with the teachers handling the fundamentals and fun added by the students through applications. Dr V N Krishnachandran stressed the fact that the fun element in mathematics lies in the ideas and concepts. Mr Suresh Lal, specified the importance of mathematics in all fields of science.

Ms Ida David and Ms Shiny E A introduced the resource persons of the Applied Science Dept and student resource persons of VAST, Ms Nisha A B gave an overview of the online course and Ms Jiji P J proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Siju K C, is the programme convener.

As many as 172 participants attended the inauguration programme and as of now there were 266 registrations.
