VSEC Empowerment session at SOS Village Mulayam

Vidya Social Empowerment center (VSEC) organized an empowerment session “Activity oriented Math-skills” on 11 November 2023 at SOS Village Mulayam. Aiming at imparting the conceptual part of Mathematics through games and activities, a group of 18 students from 8th, 9th and 10th standard actively participated in the two hour session.

Dr Siju K C (Head of VSEC, Asso Prof, AS Dept) was the resource person for the session. VSEC Student Volunteers Akhila M(S7, ECE Dept), Jisni P J (S3, CE Dept) and Mohammed Afsal (S3, ME Dept) supported the games and activities involved in the session.

The objectives were
1. To develop an understanding of basic mathematical concepts.
2. To strengthen their reasoning skills.
3. To develop a flexible thought process.

The session began with a silent prayer. Through interactive and entertaining activities, the mathematical concepts of Lines and angles, Comparing fractions, Equations in One Variable , Understanding Cartesian Coordinate system were triggered within the young minds. Each activity lead by the VSEC student Volunteers supported in aligning the underlying concept. The session ended through a game of, a mathematical move, out of the circle. Feedback from the students were taken, and their enthusiastic participation and positive response were noted. The success of the event was achieving its objective of empowering young minds with understanding and reasoning skills, which would help them to approach math-concepts with fluency of thoughts. The feedback of Ms Rini Wilson (Assistant Director, SOS Village, Mulayam) was quite encouraging and her presence throughout the session also contributed to the success of the event.
