NSS Orientation Session 2024

With an aim to provide practical experiences to newly enrolled NSS Volunteers in different community service programmes, Vidya NSS units organised an orientation session on 15 August  2024. The event was aimed at introducing students to the core values of NSS, its mission, and various programmes, while fostering teamwork and social responsibility.

The program commenced with ‘Maanavageetham’, setting a serene and focused atmosphere for the orientation.  Nistal K Paul V (Volunteer Secretary, S5 EEE Dept) warmly welcomed all participants and set the stage for the day’s events. Mr. Rajesh S K (Programme Officer, NSS and Asso Prof, EEE Dept) highlighted the importance of the NSS in shaping socially responsible citizens and motivating students to actively engage in societal development. Mr Ranjith E R (Programme Office,Asst Prof,ME Dept), provided a comprehensive overview of the NSS, detailing its objectives, the various activities conducted, and the numerous achievements of the unit. He shared inspiring stories of how NSS has positively impacted both students and the communities they serve.The newly appointed Volunteer Secretaries were introduced, giving the new students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the leaders of the unit.

In the second session, the coordinators of the various flagship programmes provided an insightful introduction to the NSS’s flagship activities. These initiatives provided the students with a clear understanding of the diverse activities they could be involved in through NSS.

Tarun Kumar P, (former Volunteer Secretary and recipient of the prestigious Best NSS Directorate-level award,2020-24 Batch, EEE Dept) shared his inspiring journey as an NSS volunteer. He spoke about how NSS has been a life-changing experience for him, providing opportunities for leadership, personal growth, and service to the community.

Ice-Breaking and Interactive Session by Mr. Sujay K (NSS PO,  Asst. Professor, SSET Ernakulam)

The afternoon session was conducted by Mr Sujay K (NSS Programme Officer & Assistant Professor of SSETErnakulam). He facilitated an engaging ice-breaking session filled with fun and interactive activities, helping the students bond and work together as a team. His session was designed to create a sense of unity among the volunteers while also reinforcing the values of NSS.

In addition to the ice-breaking activities, Mr. Sujay delivered an insightful talk on the importance of NSS, community service, and the role of youth in nation-building. During his session, he introduced a 10-minute fundraising challenge for the Wayanad Relief Fund. The students enthusiastically participated in various creative activities, successfully raising ?4411 for the cause, which demonstrated their spirit of giving and solidarity to those in need.NSS Programme Officers Mr Rajesh S K (Asso Prof, EEE Dept) and Mr Renjith E R (NSS Programme Officer and Asst Prof, ME Dept) co-ordinated the event.

The NSS Orientation Programme was a great success, leaving the newly enrolled students motivated. The day’s activities not only introduced them to the structure and objectives of NSS but also helped them develop a sense of camaraderie and responsibility towards the community.
