Inaugural Session
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Daya Rose (S4, CSE Dept) who set the tone for the programme by emphasising the importance of language in shaping identity. She expressed gratitude to the audience and guests, reinforcing the need to cherish and uphold our mother tongue. The Inaugural Address was delivered by Dr. Sunitha C (Principal), who emphasised the crucial role of native languages in cognitive development. Dr. Sunitha noted that while globalisation has increased the dominance of English, it is essential to preserve and use our mother tongue in daily life and education. She reinforced that linguistic diversity enriches cultural identity and enhances communication. Additionally, she appreciated AICTE’s initiative in encouraging institutions to observe International Mother Language Day, strengthening the importance of language preservation.

The Importance of Malayalam Language and Culture
Jithisha U J (S4, CSE Dept) spoke about the necessity of preserving and celebrating Malayalam. She stressed that language is not just a communication tool but a representation of culture, tradition, and history. She pointed out the declining use of Malayalam among younger generations and the need for its adaptation to the digital age. She also highlighted the significance of promoting Malayalam literature and celebrating the language through cultural events to inspire future generations.
The Importance of Language in History and Society
Sinan Sulaiman (S8, ME Dept)delivered an insightful speech on the broader significance of language. He highlighted how language has influenced history, citing examples such as the Bangladesh Liberation War and Sri Lanka’s language conflict, where linguistic identity played a crucial role in shaping national struggles. He also encouraged students to read Malayalam newspapers and emphasized the importance of respecting all languages while taking pride in their mother tongue

Debate : “Is the Malayalam Language Getting Adequate Importance in Our Lives Nowadays?”
A highlight of the event was an engaging debate on the topic, “Is Malayalam Language Getting Adequate Importance in Our Lives Nowadays?” Students passionately presented arguments both in favor and against the motion. Some argued that Malayalam is still thriving through literature, cinema, and digital media, while others pointed out the increasing preference for English in education and professional spaces. The debate sparked thought-provoking discussions, encouraging the audience to reflect on their own role in preserving and promoting Malayalam. The debate saw enthusiastic discussions, with students presenting arguments on the current state of Malayalam in various domains, including literature, media, and education. Ms Surabhi M S (Assistant Librarian) orchestrated the session with the role of Moderator that fulfils planner, stage-setter, facilitator and time-keeper.
Concluding session
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Aavani K Shine (S4, CSE Dept) expressing gratitude to Dr. Sunitha C, staff and student co-ordinators and all participants for making the programme a success. The celebration that was organized by Ms. Surabhi M S (Staff Co-ordinator, Assistant Librarian) with the support of Jithisha U J (Student Co-ordinator, S4, CSE Dept), and Sinan Sulaiman (Student Co-ordinator, S8, ME Dept) served as a reminder of the importance of nurturing and preserving one’s mother tongue, ensuring it continues to thrive for future generations.
