Comprehensive Orientation Program for NSS Volunteers: Understanding the KTU Care and Energy Cell Flagship Initiatives
With an aim to introduce the newly enrolled NSS volunteers to the objectives, activities, and responsibilities associated with these flagship programs, an orientation program was successfully conducted on 26 January 2025 .
Inaugural Session
The event commenced with the rendition of ‘Maanavageetham,’ setting a solemn and focused atmosphere for the orientation. Devika Mothilal (NSS Volunteer Secretary, S6, ECE Dept) extended a warm welcome to all participants, outlining the purpose of the program and the significance of the flagship initiatives.
Mrithyunjay R (NSS Volunteer Secretary, S6, EEE Dept, Regional Coordinator of the Energy Cell) emphasized the importance of these programs in fostering community service, environmental consciousness, and leadership qualities among NSS volunteers. The orientation session was formally inaugurated by Ms Anu Maria Antony (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, CE Dept) The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ardra Shanmughan, (NSS Volunteer Secretary, S6, EEE Dept).
Technical Sessions
Following the inaugural session, the Regional Coordinators of the flagship programs conducted an informative and engaging session. The session was divided into two segments:
Energy Cell Session
The Energy Cell segment was led by the following Regional Coordinators:
- Shalbin Benny (Energy Cell, TCR-PKD Region RC, IES College of Engineering)
- Karthika G (Energy Cell, TCR-PKD Region RC, Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology)
- Mrithyunjay R (Energy Cel,l TCR-PKD Region RC, Vidya Academy of Science & Technology)
The speakers elaborated on the objectives of the Energy Cell, which include promoting sustainable energy practices, spreading awareness on energy conservation, and implementing projects related to renewable energy. They shared experiences from previous activities and discussed potential projects that the volunteers could undertake.
KTU Care Session
The KTU Care session was conducted by:
- Arjun K (KTU Care TCR-PKD Region RC, Govt. Engineering College Sreekrishnapuram)
- Amritha M G (KTU Care TCR-PKD Region RC, Govt. Engineering College Thrissur)
- Antony Francis (KTU Care TCR-PKD Region RC, Vidya Academy of Science & Technology)
The discussion focused on the various humanitarian and community service initiatives under KTU Care. The speakers highlighted the role of volunteers in social welfare activities, including health awareness programs, educational support for underprivileged students, and disaster relief efforts.
Interactive Ice-Breaking Session
Following the orientation sessions, all the Regional Coordinators as a team handled an engaging ice-breaking session. This segment was designed to foster teamwork and camaraderie among the new volunteers through fun and interactive activities.
The orientation program was attended by 75 enthusiastic volunteers. The event provided valuable insights into the flagship programs, inspiring the new volunteers to actively participate in future NSS activities. The successful execution of the program reaffirmed the commitment of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology’s NSS unit towards community development and student empowerment.
