Think Safe, Live Safe & Stay Drug-Free : Road Safety and Anti-Drug Awareness Session at Vidya

Vidya actively promotes a safer, healthier, and more conscious society by integrating educational efforts with interactive programmes and awareness-driven activities.

With an aim to educate and sensitize individuals, especially students, about the importance of responsible behavior on the road and the harmful effects of drug abuse, Road Safety and Anti-Drug Awareness Programme was successfully conducted on 23 July 2025  in association with Vidya Anti-Drugs and Anti-Ragging Committees. The event brought together esteemed dignitaries, faculty, students, and experts to engage in an informative and reflective dialogue on crucial civic responsibilities.

The event began on a spiritual note with a prayer led by Ms. Yamini Vijayan (S5, CE Dept)  This was followed by the welcome address delivered by Rasika M S (S3, CE Dept) who extended a cordial greeting to the dignitaries and participants.

Dr Sunitha C (Principal) delivered presidential address who emphasized the institution’s commitment to student welfare, social awareness, and responsible citizenship. She commended the initiative for addressing two pressing societal concerns—road safety and substance abuse—through education and collaboration.

Mr James M P (Chief Guest, Deputy Transport Commissioner, Central Zone-1, Thrissur)  officially inaugurated the event and delivered a compelling and insightful address.He spoke about the pressing issues in today’s traffic landscape, emphasizing the critical role of youth engagement in promoting road safety.He also underscored the importance of education and awareness in combating the growing threat of drug abuse, encouraging students to become proactive ambassadors of change within their communities.

Mr Santhosh Kumar K (Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspector, RTO (E), Thrissur) addressed the students with practical suggestions and examples related to traffic laws, penalties and real-life incidents.

Adv Pulari Rajeev (Vice President, PTA) emphasized the role of parental and community involvement in promoting a drug-free and safety-conscious environment.

Participants were briefed on the fundamental traffic rules, the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, pedestrian safety, and safe driving practices. Real-life examples and case studies highlighted the consequences of negligence on the roads.Thoughtfully curated and expertly delivered, the session aimed to sensitize students and attendees to the critical issues surrounding road safety and substance abuse.The experts provided valuable insights into the physical, psychological, and societal impacts of drug abuse. They highlighted the significance of awareness, timely intervention and the role of families and communities in offering support and guidance to those at risk.

To maintain high levels of engagement, the session featured interactive modules, real-world scenarios, and visual presentations that captured the audience’s attention. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions, share personal stories, and actively participate in discussions, making the session both educational and thought-provoking.The awareness session served as the cornerstone of the Road Safety and Anti-Drug Awareness Programme.

As a token of gratitude, Dr Sunitha presented mementoes to the Chief Guest and resource persons, acknowledging their time and valuable contributions to the programme. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Neeva Justin (S3, CE Dept) who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, speakers, organizers, and participants for their valuable contributions in making the programme a meaningful and impactful experience. The programme was conducted under the able supervision of Mr. Anil Melepurath (Asst. Prof, ECE Dept)  whose guidance and support were instrumental in ensuring the event’s success 

In conclusion, the program effectively reinforced the need for responsible behavior on the roads and vigilance against substance abuse. It left a lasting impression on all who attended and was widely appreciated for its practical relevance, informative content, and interactive format.

The session was highly interactive, encouraging students to ask questions, share opinions, and clarify doubts. The open and engaging format helped reinforce the seriousness of the topics while promoting a participatory learning environment.
