Vidya faculty members and students attend technical session on Green Transitions – Pathway to a Sustainable Future
Vidya community engaged with experts working in various domains of green technology by attending the programme, which highlighted the urgent need for sustainable development strategies.
Students and faculty members of Vidya actively participated in the valedictory programme of Silver Jubilee Celebrations organized by the Institution of Engineers (India), Thrissur Local Centre at MT Auditorium, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Hall, Thrissur.
The event commenced with a keynote address by Er. Sandith Thandassery (CEO,Naval Solar and Electrical Boats) on the theme “Green Transitions: Pathway to a Sustainable Future”. His talk emphasized the impact of clean energy innovations, sustainable mobility solutions and the importance of accelerating India’s shift toward carbon-neutral technologies.
The programme featured two insightful technical sessions. The first session, titled “Green Buildings” was delivered by Ar. Anjana S. (Sustainability Analyst,Tropical Greenovation Cluster (TGC)). She discussed the principles of sustainable architectural design, energy-efficient building materials, and the role of environmentally responsible construction practices in reducing ecological footprints. The session provided valuable insights into emerging trends in green architecture and sustainable infrastructure development.
The second session, “Integrated Waste Management,” was handled by Er. Praveen K. S (Deputy Chief Engineer at the Kerala Water Authority). He highlighted scientific waste management strategies, water–waste linkages, challenges faced by urban local bodies, and innovative approaches for achieving efficient waste processing and resource recovery.The session stressed the importance of integrated planning and community participation in sustainable waste management systems.
The technical sessions were moderated by Prof. (Dr.) J. G. Madhu (FIE, National Council Member (IEI) and FACT Chair Professor,Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT)), whose expert insights enriched the discussions and encouraged meaningful interaction.
The event concluded with an interactive session and closing remarks by Er. S. Rathish (FIE, Chairman of the Institution of Engineers (India), Thrissur Local Centre).Participants shared reflections on sustainability practices and expressed keen interest in future activities related to green technologies and innovative engineering solutions.
Overall, the participation of faculty members including Dr. C. Justine Jose (Prof,CE Dept),Ms. Roshni Vijay (Asst Prof,CE Dept) and Mr. Naveen T P (Asst Prof,ME Dept) along with students in this technical session, significantly enhanced their understanding of sustainable engineering practices and reinforced the institution’s commitment to promoting environmentally responsible technologies and research.
