VSEC organized an outreach program titled “Visualizing Computer Science” at SOS Village, Mulayam, on 11 April 2026. The program aimed to introduce school students to fundamental concepts in computer science through engaging, activity-based learning.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Siju K. C (Head – VSEC and Asso. Prof, AS Dept). The sessions were conducted by resource persons Chanjal Chandran (S6, CSE Dept) and Mohammad Hashim K. S. (S4, ME Dept).
A total of 12 students from classes 7 to 10 actively participated in the program. The session focused on explaining how computers store and interpret digital images using the concepts of pixels and bitmaps. To simplify the topic and enhance engagement, the team designed an interactive activity titled “Drawing by Numbers”.
In this activity, students worked with a 10×10 grid to create images using binary inputs represented by 0s and 1s. Each square in the grid corresponded to a pixel, where “0” indicated an empty space and “1” indicated a filled space. As binary data was provided row by row, students gradually uncovered hidden images, helping them understand how computers process and reconstruct visual information.
The session effectively transformed an abstract technological concept into a hands-on and enjoyable learning experience. It encouraged curiosity, logical thinking, and creativity among the participants.
Overall, the program highlighted VSEC’s commitment to community engagement and educational empowerment by making science and technology learning accessible, interactive, and inspiring for young learners.
The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending heartiest congratulations to Dr. Siju, Chanjal and Mohammad Hashim on delivering meaningful session that engages hands-on activity, fostering curiosity, logical thinking and creativity among students !!!
