More than just a Game : Vidya organizes children Sports Day for Children with Autism

With an aim to promote physical activity and social interaction among children affected by autism, and to create awareness about the disease among the college community organized a sports day program in Pranavam auditorium in association with Samagra Shiksha Keralam (SSK)and Center for Research and Development of Autistic Children (CRDAC).The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteered to co-ordinate the activities on 01 March 2023.The event was attended by children and their parents.
The IEDC and NSS volunteers worked tirelessly to organize the event, which included a variety of games and activities suitable for children with autism.
The event started with a welcome speech by Mr Anil M (IEDC Nodal Officer and Asst Prof, ECE Dept).In the presidential address, Dr Saji C B (Principal) highlighted the importance of physical activity and social interaction for children with autism. The session was inaugurated by Mr V Saseendran (Samagra Shiksha Kerala District Programme Officer). Mr Sunil Kumar (Faculty member, CRDAC) proposed vote of thanks. Ms Manju (Faculty member, CRDAC) spoke on the occasion. This was followed by a warm-up session led by the volunteers, which helped the children to get into the right mindset for the games. The children were divided into teams and participated in a range of activities, including relay races, obstacle courses, and ball games.The volunteers were on hand to provide support and guidance throughout the event, ensuring that all the children had a great time.
Trophies were presented to the winners of games This was met with enthusiastic applause from the parents, who were proud of their children’s achievements. Overall, the sports day for children affected by autism disease was a great success, with everyone enjoying themselves and benefiting from the physical activity and social interaction.
The event was co-ordinated by Mr Anil M (IEDC Nodal Officer and Asst Prof, ECE Dept) with the wholehearted support of IEDC and NSS volunteers.
