Vidya organizes five-day FDP ‘Achieving Academic Excellence : Best Practices & Innovative Teaching’
Vidya always facilitates up-gradation of knowledge, skill and intends to provide opportunities for training in various disciplines.With an aim to provide new faculty and staff members with the necessary tools, knowledge and contribute effectively to the scholastic community, a Five-day Faculty Development Programme‘Achieving Academic Excellence: Best practices & Innovative Teaching’ organized by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) VAST in association with ISTE & IE VAST Chapter was held during 22- 26 July 2024.
The programme provided a valuable platform for experienced faculty members to share insights, promote collaboration, and build a supportive network. The training programme was equipped with different strategies of topics including that of Teaching methodologies and pedagogical techniques, Student engagement and assessment strategies, Research opportunities and academic collaborations, institutional policies and resources.
Opening remarks for the FDP was made by Dr Mary P Varghese (Co-ordinator, HoD,EEE Dept) and Dr Sreedevi A (IQAC Co-ordinator, Co Co-ordinator of the programme, Asso Prof, AS Dept).Mr Sureshlal (Executive Director, VICT) dealt with a wide range of aspects about VAST and VICT and its progressive journey through the session ‘Overview on the growth of VAST & VICT’. Dr Sunitha C (Principal) in her address emphasized the scope and objective of the FDP. The participants were encouraged to adhere to basic ethical values of research with an impressive session by Dr Nikhil S (Asst. Prof., NIT Calicut) on the topic ‘Research Projects, Funding, Sponsoring Agencies, Academic writing & Publications’ enhanced and presented knowledge and explore opportunities in the field of research with idea about reasoning like induction & deduction, hypothesis, variables
Dr Smitha Das (Principal,Sreepathy Arts & Science College,Vavanoor) with her session on ‘Skillfully Managing Student Behaviors’ shared very important aspect to be measured while teaching-learning process. She also stressed the importance of learning and gave idea about domains of learning.Her session helped to get subject completely understand and shaped interest among the participants.
The attendees contributed significantly to the field of new knowledge with the insightful sessions that were handled by Mr Paul Chakola (Head, Training and Placement Cell),Mr Alex Chako C (Asst Prof, ME Dept),Dr Jeeva K A (Professor & HoD, AIML Dept),Dr Mary P Varghese (Professor & HoD, EEE Dept),Dr Sreedevi A (IQAC Co-ordinator, Asso Prof, AS Dept),Dr Sajay K R (ISO MR, Asso Prof, MCA), Mr Shali K R (Systems Manager), Ms Jini Kumaraswamy (Software Engineer, VICT) and Ms Reshmi Vasanth (HR Manager, VICT).
Micro-teaching session played a key role for development of faculties’ skills that kept them up to date with the present progress. The expert panel consisting of Dr Jeeva K A (HoD, AIML Dept),Dr Abhilasha P S (HoD, CE Dept),Dr Rakesh Hari (HoD, ME Dept),Dr Reji C Joy (HoD, MCA), Dr Shameem S (Asso Prof, CSE Dept) provided necessary feedbacks that tend to acquire a deeper perceptive of the subject matter to the participants.
In the Valedictory session held on 26 July 2024, the participants discussed their improvements that facilitated updation of understanding. Mr Sureshlal (Executive Director, VICT) and Dr Sunitha C (Principal), conveyed their congratulations to the Co-ordinators,heads of academic departments, participants and all involved for their tremendous contribution that helped this FDP as a resounding success.
Dr Mary P Varghese (Professor & HoD, EEE Dept) and Dr Sreedevi A (IQAC Co-ordinator, Asso Prof, AS Dept) served as Co-ordinator and Co Co-ordinator of the FDP respectively. Ms Ponsy Paul (ISTE Secretary, Asst Prof, CE Dept) and Mr. Anil M (Secretary IE(I) VAST Chapter Asst Prof, ECE Dept) provided wholehaeted support.
