Vidya stands with Wayanad for rehabilitation of the survivors

Kerala witnessed one of its most terrible landslides on 30 July 2024 homicide more than 200 people so far and pulling down three villages. We woke up to similar sights on July 30 when a catastrophic landslide occurred in the serene, northern district of Wayanad  in the areas Mundakai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha villages.

A devastating series of landslides landslide struck hilly areas in Wayanad district in the early hours of Tuesday when most residents were asleep. With rescue operations still in progress, the death toll is predictable to get higher as more bodies are recovered from the debris. The landslide also completely obscured a government vocational higher secondary school. The people of Wayanad, who never anticipated they’d face such a hardhearted situation, have seen their lives twisted upside down in a matter of hours, with hundreds of homes brushed away during the night, leaving families and loved ones displaced and distressed.

As news of the devastating landslide in Wayanad broadened across a battle fatigue Kerala, Vidya in association with NSS units swung into action. Many activities are being carried out and into pipeline projects to prepare the students to return to schools and colleges as part of bringing back normalcy in the disaster-hit areas.
