Unfortunate demise of  Dr Beena M V (former Asst Prof, CSE Dept) by staying a lasting void with fond memories amid Vidya fraternity

Handling  with emotions is quite intensive for Vidya now. Grieving is an extreme feeling that all of us in Vidya feel with deep sorrow as in the event of losing Vidya’s former faculty member. No words can take away the pain.

Vidya is really sad about the departure of Dr Beena M V (former Asst Prof, CSE Dept) who left us on 06 November 2024.

An ardent teacher, with more than  20 years of experience, Dr Beena has spent sharing the right acquaintance to the students properly. She has made immense  contribution  in various capacities towards the growth of Vidya with various positions including that of  Convener of  VIBE (Vidya Initiative for Better Engineering, Vidya Students Support Cell (VSSC) and Co-ordinator of several workshops, seminars and has served as resource person .

Prior to joining Vidya in 2005 as lecturer in CSE Dept, Dr Beena, has exhibited her teaching capacity in different educational institutions. Dr Beena has got many publications to her credit and presented papers in various national / International Conferences.

Dr Beena M V successfully defended her PhD thesis titled “A Deep Neural Network Architecture for the Recognition of American Sign Language from Depth Maps” on 4 October 2021 from Kumaraguru College of Engineering affiliated to Anna University Chennai.

Under her guidance, CSE Students developed an android application ‘Sign Companion’ to revolutionize communication for the hearing-impaired. Many print and electronic media gave wide coverage to this Sign Companion’ application and its functioning as it offers high  social impact and relevance.

Dr Beena’s  family (Mr Shaju (SI of  Police and daughters Ms Varsha Shaju who’s an alumna  of  Vidya (2018- 22 Batch, CSE Dept) and Ms Anoopa Shaju (Plus one student, Nirmala Matha Central School, East Fort, Thrissur) served as an unwavering pillar of power and strength. Their steadfast support, readiness and warmth were immensely strengthened Dr Beena to perform all activities with  potential power in various capacities .

Dr Beena’s immense contributions are deeply noticeable and  will remain deep-rooted in Vidya’s  memory.
