VSEC Head delivers a talk on ‘Adventures in Mathematics’ and inaugurates the Academic Excellence Programme of the Kovilakath Foundation

Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC), an initiative of the Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT), equips young learners with the skills, insights, and motivation needed to thrive academically and personally.

Dr. Siju K C (Head, VSEC & Asso Prof, AS Dept) inaugurated the “Academic Excellence Programme” of Kovilakath Foundation, Kodungalloor on 3 May 2025 online at 7 pm. She delivered an enlightening talk on “Adventures in Mathematics” for scholarship students of the foundation.  Kovilakath foundation is a charitable organisation engaged in empowering children through education in rural areas. The event, attended by 8th standard scholars, their parents, teachers and distinguished guests including Er P K.Ashokan (Chief Patron,VICT) successfully blended academic inspiration with practical mathematical exploration.

In her inaugural address, Dr. Siju passionately articulated the essence of true academic excellence, emphasizing that it extends beyond textbook knowledge to include deep conceptual understanding, making meaningful connections, and creative application in real-world scenarios. She highlighted the collaborative nature of academic success, acknowledging the crucial roles of dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and students’ own perseverance. With her characteristic enthusiasm, she officially launched the programme while motivating young scholars to recognize their potential and pursue ambitious dreams.

The subsequent talk on “Adventures in Mathematics” transformed conventional perceptions of the subject into an exciting journey of discovery. Dr. Siju’s innovative approach combined theoretical concepts with hands-on activities, including a memorable session where students constructed self-supporting ladders to understand geometric principles.Through practical examples like vacation budgeting and route optimization, she demonstrated mathematical applications in daily life. The interactive session covered diverse topics from the 4:1 ratio rule to angle measurements, making abstract concepts tangible and engaging for the young audience.

The event stood out for its perfect balance of inspiration and practical learning. Er. P.K. Asokan’s presence added significant value, particularly for students inclined towards STEM fields.The foundation’s initiative successfully achieved its dual objectives of motivating academic excellence and revealing mathematics as an accessible, fascinating subject. Parents and educators alike appreciated the unique approach that made learning both meaningful and enjoyable for the scholarship recipients, setting a strong foundation for their future academic pursuits.
