ISTE (VAST Chapter) organises two-day Academic Awareness Refresher Programme

ISTE (VAST Chapter) organized a two-day Academic Awareness Refresher Programme for faculty members of the College during 23 – 24 April 2018. As many as 46 faculty members attended the programme. Prof K V Leela welcomed the participants. The programme was inaugurated by Finance Director Mr Suresh Lal and the Presidential address was delivered by Principal Dr Sudha Balagopalan. The whole programme was dedicated to Executive Director Er G Mohanachandran.

Day 1 FN : Admission related details and uploading of internals in KTU

The session was handled by Principal Dr. Sudha Balagopalan. All the information that is required to be entered in the KTU portal from the very start of admission process to the generation of hall tickets (before the start of semester examination) were discussed in ample detail. Principal emphasized on the importance of thorough understanding about the rules, regulations and provisions in the KTU portal.

Day 1 AN : Uploading of internals in ERP

Mr. Sivadasan. E.T handled the session on uploading of internal marks in ERP Academics module. The session was an interactive session in which the queries of the staff members were answered. Ms. Aswathi R Nair also added to the session by addressing the present limitations of ERP and how it will be rectified in the next academic module. Dr. Sudha Balagopalan also expressed the need to systematically enter the attendance and marks in ERP

Day 2 FN : Question paper setting and valuation

The first half of the session was on the topic, “Question paper setting” and was handled by Dr. T N Padmanabhan Nambiar. The importance of paper “ Question paper” was highlighted in the session. The steps to be followed in setting up a question paper and the attributes of a good question paper were presented. Some examples of poorly structured questions and their subsequent modification into a better version were discussed.

Valuation

Dr. N Ramachandran handled the second half of the session, on the topic “Valuation”. The need to prepare a well structured answer key was explained. Preparations to be taken up by a faculty, before starting the answer script evaluation were stressed upon.

Day 2 AN : Admission Campaign

The first session in the afternoon was related to the admission campaign activities conducted in the college. Dr, Jiby Jose, Dr. Deepa Mohan and Dr. Vineetha jointly handled the session. Awareness was given about the total intake capacity in the various courses, academic eligibility requirements for the various categories of admission ( Govt, Management and NRI quota) and the relaxations for the reserved communities. The various scholarship details were also explained.

Teaching Learning Process

Ms Mary Varghese was the moderator for this session. A brief presentation on the various learning methodologies was shown. The need to understand the caliber of students and learning styles, to create a good teaching-learning atmosphere was highlighted. Many faculty members including Dr. Sudha Balagopalan, Prof KV Leela, Dr. Swapnakumar shared their methodologies and experiences in their teaching career.

Measures to improve the results
The last session was about the different methodologies that can be taken to improve the results. Dr. Deepa Mohan and Prof Dileep handled the session. Student-related, Teacher-related and other factors contributing to the academic results were discussed.

The programme ended with a few enlightening words from Executive Director Er. G Mohanachandran.
