CSE students attend Richard Stallman’s talk session
Two BTech (CSE) students, Abhijith Sheheer (S1 BTech CSE A) and Subin Siby (S3 BTech CSE B), representing FOSSers, the Free/Libre Software Club of Vidya, attended a talk by Richard M Stallman’s at Kochi Muziris Biennale on 14 January 2019. Richard Stallman is the founder of Free Software Foundation and an Internet Hall of Famer. He is also the creator of the compiler, GCC & GNU foundation.
Richard Matthew Stallman (born March 16, 1953), often known by his initials, RMS, is an American free software movement activist and programmer. He campaigns for software to be distributed in a manner such that its users receive the freedoms to use, study, distribute and modify that software. Software that ensures these freedoms is termed free software. Stallman launched the GNU Project, founded the Free Software Foundation, developed the GNU Compiler Collection and GNU Emacs, and wrote the GNU General Public License.(Wikipedia) |
Richard Stallman’s talk was on “Computing, Freedom and Privacy”. FLOSS (Free Libre Open Source Software) enthusiasts from all over Kerala had attended the talk. Richard Stallman is on a 15 day tour around India speaking at various places promoting FLOSS. Members from different FLOSS clubs of Kerala had participated in the event.
