NSS units install a solar power system at an Anganwadi in Velur

As part of the attempts to popularize the concept of energy conservation, the NSS units of Vidya installed a solar power system at  the Anganawadi in Ward 15 of Velur Grama Panchayath  on 4 March 2019. A group of NSS volunteers under the guidance of Mr Anil M (NSS Programme Officer) designed and implemented the solar power system.

What is a solar power system?

A solar power system is made up of multiple photovoltaic (PV) panels, a DC to AC power converter (called inverter) and a rack system that holds the PV panels in place. Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are generally fitted on the roof. They should face in an easterly, northerly or westerly direction. The panels should be tilted at particular angles to maximize the amount of sunlight that hits the panels.
