Self-Defense Session by NSS

Vidya understands the importance of  empowering women with practical skills and awareness to protect themselves in various situations. self-defense is a fundamental right, not just a skill. With an aim to equip the students in teaching strategies to avoid risky situations and react swiftly when necessary, a  self-defense session was conducted by NSS on 08 March  2025  in connection with  the Celebration of International Women’s Day ‘HOPE’ (Holding Outstanding Powerful Empowerment). Ms Meena Jayan (Second  Dan. Black Belt Gurudharma School of Martial Arts) and Mr Ajamal P D (First Dan. Black Belt Gurudharma School of Martial Arts)  led the session .

Participants had the opportunity to practice hands-on techniques under expert guidance. The session focused on building confidence, enhancing situational awareness, and equipping participants with practical self-defense strategies to ensure personal security in everyday situations.  The training also aimed to instill a sense of self-reliance and preparedness among participants, reinforcing their ability to handle real-life situations confidently. Live demonstrations were conducted  including that of Escape techniques from grabs and holds basic striking techniques for self-protection, situational awareness and prevention tactics and using everyday objects for self-defense.

The session was efficiently organized and executed under the leadership of the NSS Volunteer Secretaries, including: Mrithyunjay R (S6, EEE Dept), Nistal K Paul (S6 ME Dept), Ardra Shanmughan (S6 EEE Dept) and Aruna R Menon (S6, CSE Dept). Their dedication, teamwork, and coordination played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of the event, making it a meaningful and educational experience for all participants.

Mr. Ranjith E R (NSS Programme Officer and Asst Prof, ME Dept) played a pivotal role in guiding and motivating the volunteers.
