ME Dept organises technical talk on Forging Technology
Dr A Surendran, Senior Manager, (A & HRD), from Steel Industrial and Forging Limited (SIFL), Athani, Thrissur, delivered a technical talk on “Forging Technology: A Technical Tour through SIFL” on 02.03.2018 in the Seminar Hall in the Decennial Block to the S4 B Tech (ME) students.
The session started with an invocation.
Mr K Hareesh, AP ME, welcomed the students and dignitaries to the function. Dr N Ramachandran, HoD ME, delivered the presidential address and explained the significance and the necessity of such invited talks as such programmes fill the gap between the academic syllabi and the industrial practices.
Dr Surendran, starting with an overview of the firm as an AS9100 Ccertified Public Sector Undertaking fully owned by Government of Kerala incorporated in 1983 and which had started commercial production in 1986, explained how it moved ahead to become a name to reckon with. Untiring efforts of three decades has saddled SIFL firmly in the forging industry of India and abroad with best ratings for its products and services. Forgings with exquisite designs and shapes, flawless forms and contours, broad bands and spectra of metals like alloy steels, super-alloys, alloys of aluminum and titanium – all in wide range of weights and unmatched quality – have made SIFL the most sought after forging company in the country for critical components. They are the masters in titanium and special alloy forgings.
The guest speaker explained in detail the various technical methods carried out in SIFL. He also shared his experiences with various industrial problems. The talk was followed by a question answer session. Ms Nandhini Jayaram (Student Representative, S4 B Tech ME) delivered the vote of thanks.
