Vidya pays tributes to Dr D Balakrishnan

The ninth Dr D Balakrishnan Commemorative programme was conducted on 16 August 2019 at the College Auditorium. The Chief Guest for the function was Dr S Umashankar, Professor, Prince Sultan University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is a graduate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and his area of expertise is “Electric Vehicles, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning”.

The programme started at 10:30 am with a prayer. Dr Saji C B, Principal, delivered the welcome address. Er K P R Vijayan, Author Trustee, VICT, gave the presidential address. After the talk by Er Vijayan, the Chief Guest lit the traditional oil lamp and tributes were paid to Dr D Balakrishnan by garlanding his photo and by offering flowers.

Er G Mohanachandran, Executive Director, VICT gave commemorative talk. Dr Sudha Balagopalan, Dean Academics, introduced the chief guest to the audience. After this, the Chief Guest was presented a memento by Er G Mohanachandran. Mr Suresh Lal, Director – Administration & Finance, and Dr V N Krishnachandran, Vice Principal offered felicitations. Mr Rajesh S K, Convener, Organising Committee, delivered the vote of thanks. The first session was concluded with a playing of the national anthem.

In the second session, Dr S Umashankar presented a talk on “Opportunities for Engineers”. The talk was attended by all B Tech first year students, faculty and and staff members of Vidya. An interactive session with the Chief Guest was an added attraction. The function concluded by 12.45 pm.
