Readers’ Day Celebration features engaging Book Review Competition ‘OUR’ for plus two students by Central Library

 

Vidya Central Library cultivates reading habits among students, enhances their critical thinking and communication skills, and inspires them to appreciate literature through thoughtful book reviews and presentations.
Vidya Central Library in association with  IE(I) VAST Chapter, organized the Book Review Competition 2026 – “Once Upon a Review” as part of the Readers’ Day celebrations. The event was conducted for Plus Two students of St. George Higher Secondary School, Puttekara, on 19 June 2026 at the school campus, in connection with Readers’ Week, observed on 19 June in memory of Mr P. N. Panicker.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome and an introduction to the significance of reading and lifelong learning by Ms.Sreekala (HSST – Hindi,St. George Higher Secondary School). Ms Binu T Panakkal (Principal,St. George Higher Secondary School) addressed the gathering and expressed gratitude to Vidya y for organizing such a meaningful programme In the speech Ms Binu appreciated the efforts taken to promote reading culture among students and encouraged them to make reading a regular habit. Mr. Babu G. Mekkattukulam (Manager,St. George Higher Secondary School) stressed the importance of reading in academic success and personal growth. The address highlighted how books serve as valuable sources of knowledge, wisdom and inspiration.Mr. P C Girishkumar (Librarian) highlighted the importance of reading in enhancing knowledge, creativity, language skills and personal development. He also emphasized how regular reading helps students broaden their perspectives and develop critical thinking abilities.Ms. Surabhi M S (Asst Librarian) explained the rules and regulations of the Book Review Competition in detail. She appreciated the students for taking up the challenge of reviewing books, noting that preparing and presenting a book review requires considerable time, effort and dedication. Mr. K Vijayanarayanan (Library Attendant) shared some quotes and motivated students with attractive  statements about books and reading. He also quoted passages from well-known literary works. Working diligently behind the scenes, Mr Aneesh M A (Library Attendant) offered essential support for the smooth execution of the programme. His detailed explanation of the competition procedures helped students overcome their hesitation and present their reviews confidently.Ms Jeena Philo ((HSST – Botany,St. George Higher Secondary School) proposed vote of thanks.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who reviewed books from various genres including fiction, non-fiction, biography, and historical literature. Participants presented their reviews with confidence and creativity, making the event both informative and engaging.The competition was evaluated by Ms. Surabhi and Mr. K Vijayanarayanan, both serving as judges for the event.

As a token of appreciation, Ms Binu T Panakkal and Mr. P C Girishkumar distributed certificates and gifts to all OUR competition participants.Books were awarded to the winners along with gifts and certificates in recognition of their achievement.
