VSEC Orientation Programme 2024

 

The orientation program of  Vidya Social Empowerment Centre (VSEC), an initiative of  Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT) was conducted on 20 August 2024 to welcome new members and provide them with a comprehensive overview of the center’s mission, vision, and activities. The program aimed to set the stage for awareness through meaningful engagement, collaboration, the objectives and benefits of VSEC. The event featured a series of insightful sessions and activities, facilitated by key members of VSEC.

The program commenced with a prayer led by Krishnaveni T(S7, ECE Dept, VSEC Volunteer), setting a serene and focused atmosphere for the orientation. The anchoring of the event was skillfully handled by Gayathri Gireesh (S7, ECE Dept, VSEC Volunteer), who guided the flow of the program smoothly and kept the audience engaged.

Following the opening, Sinan Sulaiman (S7, ME Dept, VSEC Volunteer) provided an informative introduction to VSEC, outlining the organization’s goals, programs, and the vital role it plays in empowering communities through education and capacity-building initiatives. His presentation offered participants a clear understanding of VSEC’s purpose and the impact of its work.

The next segment of the orientation was a thought-provoking talk on responsibilities, hosted by Varundev A V (S7, ECE Dept, VSEC Volunteer). He highlighted the importance of understanding and embracing responsibilities in social work, encouraging participants to be proactive, accountable, and committed in their roles within the organization.

The media coverage for the program was managed by Arjun Krishna K V (S5, EEE Dept,VSEC Volunteer), ensuring that all sessions were recorded and documented effectively. This allowed for smooth transitions between segments and provided valuable resources for future reference.

Dr Siju K C (Head of VSEC, Asso Prof, AS Dept), and Ms Surabhi M S (Assistant Librarian, VSEC Member) also took the stage to introduce themselves and share their experiences. They discussed their journeys with VSEC, their motivations for joining the center, and their hopes for its future impact. Their introductions added a personal touch to the program, inspiring new members to actively participate and contribute to the center’s mission.

Activities 

  • ICE BREAKING:- The session aimed to create a comfortable and engaging environment for participants to get to know each other and build rapport. The uniqueness of the session lay in its creative approach to self-introduction, which encouraged participants to introduce themselves in a special way.
  • INTRO ABOUT VSEC :- Sinan Sulaiman began the session by introducing Vidya Social Empowerment Centre, explaining its origin, goals, and the underlying philosophy that drives its initiatives. He highlighted the center’s commitment to social change through empowerment and education, emphasizing that VSEC operates with a vision to build a just, equitable, and compassionate society. The center primarily focuses on providing educational support, vocational training, and capacity-building programs for marginalized communities.
  • TALK ON RESPONSIBILITIES:- Varundev hosted the session on responsibilities. The talk focused on the importance of understanding and embracing responsibilities, especially in the context of community service and social work. Varundev’s session aimed to inspire participants to take ownership of their roles and contribute meaningfully to the collective mission of social upliftment.
  • TEAM DYNAMIC ACTIVITY:-The programme ended with a series of dynamic activities designed to engage the students actively. These activities were diverse and well-organized, allowing participants to showcase their talents, collaborate with their peers, and build team spirit. The energy in the room was palpable as students eagerly participated, making the event a lively and memorable experience.
IMPACT:

Enhanced Sense of Community: The ice-breaking sessions and interactive activities helped students forge new friendships and build a sense of belonging. This early connection can ease the transition into college life, reducing anxiety and fostering a supportive peer network.

Increased Awareness and Motivation: The sessions led by Sinan and Varundev provided students with a clear understanding of the institution’s values and their own responsibilities as members of the VSEC community. This instilled a sense of purpose and motivation among the students, encouraging them to strive for excellence in their academic and personal endeavors.

Active Engagement: The dynamic activities were not just fun but also educational, promoting active participation and teamwork. These experiences are likely to have instilled a collaborative spirit among students, which is crucial for group projects and other academic activities.

Confidence Building: By providing a platform for self-introduction and participation, the orientation program helped students gain confidence in expressing themselves. This is particularly beneficial as they navigate the challenges of higher education, where communication and self-assurance are key.

Foundation for Success: Overall, the orientation laid a strong foundation for the students’ academic journey at VSEC.
