Vidya students’ thumping performance in Cambridge English assessment
Vidya has set a national record of sorts by being the campus with the largest number of students who have appeared and cleared the Business English Certificate (BEC) examination conducted by University of Cambridge English Language Assessment. As many as 501 students in the first year B Tech classes (2018 admissions) appeared for the examination of whom 495 students passed the examination with 31 distinctions. The delivery of the classes for preparing for the examination was coordinated by Mr Rahul V R (AP, ME Dept) and Ms Kalyani Vijayakumar (AP, CE Dept).
Examination levels
There are three Cambridge English Qualifications for business. The content for each exam is based on everyday work and business tasks and is designed to develop business English skills. Each one is targeted at a different level. B1 Business Preliminary is the first of these exams. With a B1 Business Preliminary qualification, one can show employers that he/she has a good knowledge of English for practical, everyday use in business. The second level exam is known as B2 Business Vantage, formerly known as Cambridge English: Business Vantage (BEC Vantage). It shows employers that one is ready to do business at an international level. The third level is known as C1 Business Higher, formerly known as Cambridge English: Business Higher (BEC Higher). It helps one to get the practical language skills you need to work effectively at a senior level in international business.
Students of Vidya appeared for the B1 Business Preliminary qualification (formerly known as Cambridge English: Business Preliminary (BEC Preliminary)). The B1 Business Preliminary examination has three parts: Part 1 to test reading and writing skills having a duration of 90 minutes, Part 2 to test listening skills having a duration of 40 minutes and Part 3 to test speaking skills having a duration of 12 minutes.
